Tucson International Airport will offer a much bigger taste of the Old Pueblo starting next year, when local favorites including El Charro Cafe, Beyond Bread, The Maverick, Noble Hops, Thunder Canyon Brewery and Arbuckles’ Coffee open new airport locations.
The Tucson Airport Authority board voted unanimously Wednesday to award contracts to new operators for new and expanded food, beverage and retail concessions in the terminal.
Construction on the new concessions will start March 1, immediately after the current contracts expire, and the project is scheduled to be completed in phases though the end of 2017.
Current food and drink concessions include few local options, besides Taco Bron and Ike’s Coffee .
The new concessions will mingle national brands including Bruegger’s Bagels with local offerings.
“Travel has changed with the new security requirements, and passengers are spending more time in airports looking for more and different things to do,” said Bonnie Allin, president and CEO of the Tucson Airport Authority. “This is the airport’s opportunity to showcase the many things that are unique to the Southern Arizona region.”
